Upcoming Race: The Perfect 10 Race

Some of you have seen the invite on Facebook.  Ok, there's the story...

Just over a year ago, I decided to write about Running in the OC.  I wanted to focus on Race Reports/Trails because oftentimes people asked me what I thought of the local races.  Given the limited (Race Budget and) time... I decided to fill some of the gaps with my experience as a Coach and Trainee.  Sometimes it colorful commentary, and other times it's the facts.  Either way, I wanted it to become a resource for friends to use when Running in the OC.

During the course of my first year, a debate over cocktails regarding a Trail I rated, pointed out I never give a 10/10.  Even if I really like a Race/Trail.  My response was:  "I gotta leave something to strive for..."

After some thought, I decided to take this comment as a challenge.  And as I often do, I let my mind wonder on one of my Runs.  Next thing I know, I've concocted a Race hoping (at least in my mind) would receive a 10/10.

So, let's talk about the necessary elements to make this Race Perfect:
  1. Say it with me:  A Beer Garden
  2. Low priced entry
  3. Cool trail
  4. Crowd support
  5. Cool medal
  6. Smaller venue
  7. Bathroom and aid station support
  8. Easy parking/race packet pickup
  9. Some kind of social hour/entertainment at the Beer Garden
Am I missing any?  I'm sure you'll let me know...

Those in the OC, mark your calendars.  I've NEVER hosted a Race.  And the old rule of thumb applies... inaugural races typically have some kinks to work out.  Check out below for more details, and "like" The Perfect 10 Race on Facebook for more details.

The main thing to point out... this is a grassroots production... in otherwords:  Expect half Hash Run/half organized trail run with friends... but don't expect anything "official".
