Making a Running Comeback

So my goal for this month is to Run 14 Miles. Total.

Hm. Total.

Give me a sec here:
I mean, I remember when I was Running 14 Miles on a Saturday because The Gang was getting together for fun (and beer after).

But now, it's 14 Miles Total for the month. Sorry, just still trying to get my head around it. Bare with me...

Ok, I'm back...
So, here's what I got for Running Stats this week:
  • .75 Miles increments (Docs orders: short miles on my re-introduction with a build of only .25 every 2 weeks)
  • I've done it exactly 3 times this week and tomorrow will be my 4th.
  • Total for Year: 6.25; Total for Month: 3.25.
It's so easy to lose, but so hard to get back:
Let's be honest. It's not just my ankle holding me back... it's my body too. I've lost all my fitness in the past year and a half sabbatical. I can't expect to be prancing along at a sub-8 pace. My body is starting over. (And apparently Georgia is too... she's suddenly very interested in scents off course these days as an excuse to take a breather... and if I'm honest, I'm thankful for that excuse).

Oh, the focus... nice grasshoper!
Alright, so let's roll up our sleeves and start getting this done! Project Shannon Back In Shape is in session! I've picked up Running Across Ohio's 30 Day Challenge and I'm loving the Squats, Lunges (for me it's Single Leg Squats), and Bridges. I can tell it's working because those little, powerhouse muscles (insert picture: hands circling the hips, buns and legs area) are sore! I love it!

So, I'll promise you today: you'll never see me write again about the woes of my past Long Distance Running life.

This is my new life: Being able to Run! The thrills of each new milestone.

When I was told I couldn't Run anymore and should find another sport, I cried (a shame, that Doctor was really cute and a Mountain Biker). When I was told there was still a chance... I saw hope.

Now, when I walk out the door with my super out of shape dog, I raised my chin up and I'm excited for every Mile I'm capable of Running today.
