Run Report: Snails Pace Pub Run (July)
Pub + Run = one happy runner!
Actually there were about 50 happy runners…
A Snail’s Pace Running Shop… you got my attention with this one!
Ok, I heard about this run from The Ladies. They attended the first one and eagerly endorsed it with our group. Why? Well, because… there was running AND we got free beer at the end!
The Snail’s Pace Pub Run is a great way to mix up your weekly run. But I do recommend you switch things around on that week’s run schedule so it falls on your short recovery day. Mileage for the Mission Viejo location was just over 1 mile on the Aliso Creek Trail.
The Ladies had the system worked out though. We agreed to meet at the “finish line” Bru and run to the start. A short run was fine with us, but we needed to earn at least one of those post beer runs (yes, we may or may not have order a second beer after the first free one). Plus, we didn’t have to coordinate getting back to the start after a full tummy.
Rolling up to the start (sweaty) we checked in. Got our beer bracelet and then waited with the 50 other Runners (Beer Drinkers with a Running Problem).
The run itself was pretty nondescript but the concept was really about awareness for the store, meeting other runners and enjoying a tasty cold beverage. As I told the owner, “thank you for hosting a run right up my alley!”
Now I’m sure the patrons of Bru didn’t appreciate the high volume of sweaty (possibly stinky) Runners in the Bar area waiting for their free craft beer (with free pint glass), but we cleared out pretty quick to the patio.
Truth is I purposely waited on posting a review of this run so I could encourage/recruit my fellow running friends for the next one in MV: 9/24. So mark your calendars and get there early… registration is limited to on the day.
Perks of the Run:
· Ah, it’s called a Pub Run (woot!)
· It’s Free!
· You get a free beer
· You get a free pint glass
· Test drive a pair of shoes, if you want
· Small organized Run to meet other local Runners
· Great post run “beer garden” at Bru
· Bru did a great job of shuttling us through the free beer line
Cons of the Run:
· Plan for a short run
· Wish there were more!
· Summer evenings do get hot – but I guess you’ll enjoy the cold beer all the more!
I give this an 8.5 out of 10 but only because I felt a little guilty running so little. But not enough to prevent me from having my free beer (and order some more + dinner)…
